End-of-semester Stuff

Thank you so much for being the wonderful students that you are. My first teaching experience was very positive and so much fun because of you! I was impressed with everyone’s final projects and am so proud to see how much you all have grown as a class. I hope you all learned a lot and had fun while doing so.

We still have a few more loose ends we need to tie:

  1. I will post grades on Monday morning, so please post your final presentations and/or documentation to the class blog by then as well as all of your homework assignments.
  2. Please submit the class evaluations.
Thanks again. Have an awesome, well-rested break and good luck with the rest of your Parsons careers! And just remember, if any haters tryna hate, “It’s a lonely road to success.”

Final Presentation 12/10

I can’t believe we only have one more week left! As a reminder, you all will be required to present your final projects with a 5 – 8 minute presentation going through your concept, process, final prototype and future considerations, etc. You can show a video, demonstrate your project, or have a hands-on demonstration. It’s up to you and will really depend on the best way you think your project can be represented.
So far I have booked one guest critic, Leif Percifield. I would like to line up another one before next week. Leif is the creator of DontFlush.Me, a project that provides realtime sensing and alert systems for water pollution and Visualight a wifi enabled lightbulb capable of displaying information as colored light. Before completing a MFA at Parsons, in Design and Technology, he worked as a media developer at Los Alamos National Laboratory where he held a top secret security clearance. He is currently a collaborator/founder atIncredible Machines in Brooklyn.
Remember, Leif knows nothing about your projects, and I will not tell him about your projects. He will only know the scope of the class, so it will be your job to effectively communicate your projects.
Best of luck and I look forward to seeing your finals! I know you all will do great!

Downloads for openFrameworks

We will be going over oF today – just installation and looking at examples. If you can, please download openFrameworks before class and make sure the examples work: http://www.openframeworks.cc/download/

I just upgraded to Mavericks and my Xcode version is not compatible with this OS, so I’m downloading Xcode too which takes forever. If you guys are having the same issue, you might want to do the same thing. You can download Xcode from the app store.

Chris, you will have to download code::blocks to use with oF: http://www.codeblocks.org/

Midterm: Guest Critic!

I’m pleased to announce that we will have a guest critic, Jennifer Matsumoto, join us for our midterm critiques tomorrow. Jennifer is a graduate of the MFA Design and Technology program (c/o ’13) as well as an esteemed fellow for Open Society Foundations. Jennifer is also co-founder of Matsumoto Studio.

I’m looking forward to tomorrow. I will bring snacks!

Week 10: Working Class Session

I’ve gotten a few emails from people who need help with their midterm projects. Given that we do not have too much time to divide into 14 sections, I think instead of going over motors in Arduino, we should use the full amount of class time to work on midterm projects.

Please bring your prototypes!
